Legal cannabis having a big impact in Adrian!
The Monroe News takes a deep dive into the impact of legal marijuana businesses in Adrian, showing how they are attracting higher-paying jobs & to the region and spurring development:
Adrian is home to two colleges, a traditional downtown district and stretches of main thoroughfares filled with commercial businesses. It’s surrounded by farmland and smaller communities and has a population of approximately 20,000.
It also has a booming pot industry.
To date, there are seven open dispensaries, sprawling grow operations, processing facilities and a lab. And there are plans on the horizon for more, with the opportunity to get in on a rapidly growing Michigan drawing developers and entrepreneurs from across the country.
…One of the biggest benefits has been the rehabilitation of long-vacant and dilapidated properties, which has spurred additional development.
The buildings feature modern architecture, employing upgrades required by the city’s Planning Commission as part of its application process. The effect has been the beautification of several previously unaesthetic structures.
“It’s really helped with the elimination of blight, which was one of the city’s goals,” City Attorney Tamaris Henegan said.
