This Saturday at noon the undefeated Michigan Wolverines travel from Ann Arbor to East Lansing to face the also undefeated Michigan State University Spartans to take home the Paul Bunyan Trophy.
Fansided shares that the Spartans & Wolverines have met a total of 113 times since 1898 and though UM leads the rivalry 71–37–5, the games have been very competitive of late & besides, the MCT is first & foremost about cannabis, so let’s dig in with our totally random list of cannabis-related benchmarks for Ann Arbor, East Lansing & both schools!
number 1
The History
Both schools obviously have a storied history on & off the field, but Ann Arbor has been ground zero for the cannabis legalization movement since the 1970s & is home of the annual Hash Bash. Even for MSU students like for example the author of this piece went to Hash Bash every year.
Plus Ann Arbor is where legendary cannabis activist John Sinclair began his long battle to free the weed. John Lennon wrote a song about him people!

WINNER
Ann Arbor
number 2
Dispos, Lounges & Cannabis Scene
Dispensaries
Our listings show Ann Arbor pushing 30 rec dispensaries while East Lansing has just 4. If we add in Lansing, the numbers get closer but Ann Arbor still has more.
Cannabis Lounges
Ann Arbor has (at least) two cannabis consumption lounges on the way, but East Lansing Edgewood Cannabis will be opening their own lounge soon!
Events
Hash Bash is the grandaddy of Michigan cannabis celebrations, and events that tie in like the Monroe Street Fair & new ones are there, but the Lansing 420 Festival last summer was quite a treat!
closer than expected but WINNER
Ann Arbor
number 3
School Motto
Really feels like MSU needs to put some points on the board in a hurry. Fortunately there’s simply no contest between “Go Blue” & “Go Green” in this case.
WINNER
East Lansing
number 4
Cannabis Program
As far as cannabis education goes, while it would make sense to give both schools a loss here because Marijuana Law at MSU & Pharmacy Science 420 at UM are at nowhere near the level of offerings at Northern Michigan University or Lake Superior State University, we probably better pick a winner.
While UM get points for a clever class number, MSU’s Cannabis Industry Association for students takes it in for the Spartans.
WINNER
East Lansing
The Verdict?
Ends in a tie!
It appears that this battle will have to be settled on the field at Spartan Stadium after all … unless anyone out there can suggest a tie breaker??
